Facebook needed a way to show people Newsfeed wasn’t a nameless, faceless product - that there was, in fact, some humanity to it all.
The solution? Delightful, lightweight (both in tone and file size) animations welcoming users at the start of each session. Personalized using each user’s name, the animations changed based on signal like time of day, day of week, and the mindset someone might be in at that time. To keep things fresh, dozens upon dozens of these were created - the below are just a small sampling of the team’s output.
